The Development Department is staffed by the Planning & Economic Development Director and is responsible for a variety of City improvement programs, enhancement projects, and planning efforts.  This department's primary responsibilities are in the areas of economic development, community development, and planning.  In addition, this department maintains and produces community data.  The department acts as staff to the Planning Commission, making recommendations on new and expanded commercial buildings as well as signage and other planning elements of urban design.  The department also works with the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Tree & Public Gardens Commission.  The Department works with building owners to attract new business tenants, and works with businesses in need of expansion or relocation assistance.
