Bexley has a mayor-council form of government with an elected mayor, John Brennan, and seven elected council members. The Bexley city government oversees a variety of city services, including:
Police
With 28 sworn officers and seven support personnel, the Bexley Police Department serves over 13,000 citizens in a city of about 2.5 square miles.
Parks & Recreation
The Bexley Recreation Department organizes a variety of recreational programs and manages the city's community pool. The Bexley Recreation Department office is located on the 2nd floor of Jeffrey Mansion at 165 N. Parkview Avenue.
Service Department
The Service Department provides sanitation and water and sewer service, maintains streets, street lights and sidewalks, and cares for street trees, boulevards, medians and parks. It is the goal of the Service Department to provide excellent services in a timely manner.
Auditing & Finance
The Auditor is the fiscal officer of the city and ex-officio Clerk of Council. The Auditor's Office tracks budgeting and appropriations, processes accounts payable and payroll, fields questions regarding income tax, and provides staff assistance to other City departments
Building Department
The Building Department is fully certified by the State of Ohio to approve and inspect all commercial and residential construction. Regulation is achieved through bonding of contractors and the issuance of permits.
The building department is also responsible for enforcing the Building Maintenance Code. This code establishes a minimum standard that structures and exterior property are to meet. Code Enforcement Officers routinely inspect the city to ensure compliance.
In addition to the above responsibilities, community planning is accomplished by the Building Department.
Water Department
The City of Bexley purchases its water from the City of Columbus. We administer all utility billing for the City of Bexley. Residents are billed quarterly and most businesses are billed monthly, with charges including water, sewer and refuse. Bexley offers a senior citizen discount on the refuse for homeowners 65 years of age or older.
Development
Focused on citywide re/development, the Development Office strives to keep existing Bexley business growing and to bring new development investment to the City. |
